Spending the Night on a Towel on a Concrete Floor

For those of you who didn’t know, I will be spending the next two weeks on a quick tour of the west coast of the Balkan peninsula. If you have no idea what that is, click here to read the wikitravel article for a bit of background. I will be starting in Zadar croatia and working my way slowly down the coast by bus through Bosnia & Herzegovinia, Montenegro and Albania before arriving in Greece.

I’m getting old or boring… or both

I sit here researching hostels for a two week long backpacking trip I’m taking next week across Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. As I sit here filtering my search down on hostelworld, I suddenly dread the idea of walking up long hills to find kitschy small hostels. I’m narrowing my search by the distance to the bus station so I don’t have to walk that far. I’m kicking out the hostels with high party ratings in the hope of...

The Things I Miss the Most About the US of A

Being away from home changes the way you look at life. First it was moving to Texas. I remembered not being able to get Taco Bueno or Quiktrip and thinking I'd officially moved too far away. These little comforts at first were a pain, but I found other things to replace them or binged on them while I was home and everything was alright. Then I made the move out to Los Angeles and even more things were lost...

5 Places I Would Take a Guest to in San Ambrosio, Andalucia, Spain

This is a re-post of a guest post I wrote for GotSaga.com in January. Check out the original article here. San Ambrosio. My home. What, you've never heard of it? C'mon! At a whopping 400 citizens in a country most people have on their bucket lists but not in their backyard, I guess I understand. San Ambrosio, Andalucia, Spain. It's a place I haven't called home for very long - less than a year actually. But it's a place that has done...

4 Damn Good Reasons You Should Go to Brooklyn, New York

Every day in the United States of America, people come from all over the world to New York City. Weeks can be spent wandering the streets of midtown, strolling the walking paths in central park, ferrying yourself across the various rivers and bays surrounding the city and stuffing your face with hotdogs and 99¢ slices of piping hot pizza. Oh yes, you could even easily spend a whole week in New York City and never leave...

Dictionary.com is a Fortune Teller

Yes, folks. That's right. I step off my plane this morning in London, log onto my wifi and... BAM! There it is. The word of the day, for today, March 20th, 2011, the VERY DAY that I arrive back in Spain, the word of the day is noneother than the namesake of the place I live and work: Los Alamos.

Longest Round Trip Segment Ever–I’m back in Spain!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. That is correct. As of Sunday 3:05 PM GMT I am back in Spain! In an attempt to confuse everyone, when I left the country in October, I left on a round-trip ticket carting me from Malaga, up to London and back to New York. 6 Months later, I’m finally on my return ticket. I’m not going to lie and tell you that I wasn’t a bit nervous as I packed my giant suitcase up in Tulsa with all my crap in tow and started the haul back here, but I definitely didn’t imagine it would have this many pitfalls. I will outline them in bullet point form because A)
